Amazon’s about-face will hit Greenpoint developers, but it’s not a knockout punch
Greenpoint landlords may miss out on long-term profits because Amazon’s not coming to Long Island City — but it won’t be the end of the world. “For Greenpoint, Amazon was the cherry on top,” Mike Salvatico, an associate broker at Marcus and Millichap, told the Brooklyn Eagle. The behemoth company had planned to use nearly $3 billion in city and state subsidies to build a headquarters in Long Island City and hire 25,000 employees. Over a five-year period, Amazon’s presence would have sparked a 20 percent increase in Greenpoint apartment rents…

FIPS Broken News: Ta Ta Tea Lounge (The End of Yet Another Era)
On a recent visit to famed Park Slope institution, the Tea Lounge, while sipping an Iced Americano on the mangy couch nearest the entrance after dropping off laundry next door, I said to my husband, “I pretty much never need to come in here again.” What I didn’t know then is that as of December 14th, I won’t have a choice; As we mentioned in WHASSUP yesterday, TL IS CLOSING after 14 years in their cavernous Union Street space (their first location was on 7th and 10th, and closed in 2008). Brooklyn had the most emergencies of all boroughs in 2018, says Red Cross
Volunteers for the Red Cross responded to 600 emergencies in Brooklyn in 2018, making Brooklyn the busiest of all boroughs for crises. For example, Red Cross volunteers responded to a tragic fire on Eastern Parkway in August that left one person dead and displaced 15 families, according to News12 Brooklyn. The same month, volunteers responded to a fire on Coney Island Avenue that left four families without homes, News12 Brooklyn reported. “To start to set them on that path of recovery to tell them this might be the worst day of your life, but it does get better,” Garrison Harward of the Red Cross told News

Your apartment of course, looks just like this. via Marmara Park Avenue You know how it is when you move to New York City. You call your friends and family back home in Topeka, Iowa or wherever you’re from and they drawl into the phone and ask if your apartment is JUST like the one from Sex in the City or Seinfeld or Girls or The Parent ‘Hood. The Williamsburg J. Crew is beyond parody
wow. such graffiti. much hipster. very art. via J. Crew We tried to goof on the Williamsburg J. Crew by getting hold of the employee handbook for the store, but you know, it sounds like they’re doing a good enough job parodying themselves. From T Magazine: “We didn’t want to just go and do graffiti,” says Jenna Lyons, J.Crew’s creative director. Initially, she wanted to keep the store’s facade as she’d found it — covered in posters and spray-painted tags. “Unfortunately when we did a survey of the space, the facade was actually in such poor shape we had to replace quite a bit of the brick,” she…
