As part of Outdoors Week 2014, Curbed searched for the best dog park in NYC. Six contenders made the cut, and today we announce the winner of the poll.
The dog owners of New York City have spoken: Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village is home to the best dog park in the city. The park’s dog runs were completely overhauled as part of the park’s six-year-long makeover, and the new tree-lined runsone for large dogs, one for small dogshas plenty of benches, a water feature and fountains, and a well-draining dirt ground. The nonprofit group that maintains the park, and hosts the ever-popular dog Halloween parade, sent us dozens of photos of pooches playing in the park, and all of the cuteness probably helped catapult the run into first place. It beat out Hillside in Brooklyn Heights, Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side, the new run at Hunters Point South Park, Tompkins Square Park in the East Village, and Jemmy’s Run in Madison Square Park.
